Gregory S. Slappey, M.D., FAAOS

Dr. Slappey graduated from Georgia Southwestern College in 1988 where he played collegiate football and baseball. He had already decided on medicine as a career path, but became interested in Sports Medicine as a result of his sports career.

Dr. Slappey obtained his M.D. degree at the Medical College of Georgia and completed his residency in orthopaedic surgery at Georgia Baptist Medical Center in Atlanta. He completed his Sports Medicine Fellowship at Southern California Orthopaedic Institute in Van Nuys, California. He moved back to Georgia in 1998 to join The Carrollton Orthopaedic Clinic.

Dr. Slappey came to Carrollton because he wanted a general practice with a sports medicine focus. He enjoys working with the entire family – from children to grandparents. Since his arrival, the sports practice has grown to include almost all the area high schools and the University of West Georgia where he serves as team physician.

Dr. Slappey believes in a conservative approach to patient care. He believes that preventive medicine is as important as surgical intervention. He also understands that rehabilitation and patient education is important to long-term success after surgery.

Dr. Slappey, having grown up in Americus, Georgia., believes that a strong sense of community is important. He is proud to be a partner with Tanner Health System in promoting the care and well-being of people in the West Georgia area.

Medicine runs in the family for those with the Slappey last name.  Several of Dr. Slappey's uncles as well as his brother are all orthopaedic surgeons.

Dr. Slappey is married to Carrollton native, Angie and has 4 children.
