Dr. Sunderland is originally from Minnesota. He graduated Cum Laude from Carleton College. He completed medical school at Chicago Medical School and his residency in orthopedics at Henry Ford Medical Center in Detroit. After residency he completed his fellowship in Adult Reconstructive Surgery at Emory University, under the direction and leadership of Drs. Greg Erens, Thomas Bradbury and James Roberson.
Dr. Sunderland specializes in total joint replacement, including hips, knees, and revision surgery, as well as surgical care for complicated lower extremity injuries. He is trained in advanced minimally invasive techniques such as Anterior Approach Hip Replacements and Partial Knee Replacements. These techniques allow for a more rapid recovery, often even same day total joint replacements. He is also trained to treat a variety of everyday orthopaedic problems from the neck to the toes.
Dr. Sunderland is married with two daughters and resides in Atlanta. In his spare time, he enjoys traveling, running, and spending time outdoors.
